The Southern Gold Coast Australia…. KIRRA

Away from the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise and the tourist mecca is the tranquility of one of Australia’s most popular stretch of surfing beaches.

Kirra is adjacent to Coolangatta and Tweed Heads,  towns that straddle the border of  New South Wales and Queensland, Australia.   Here it seems time stands still and it is as though every second person carries a surfboard either under their arm, on their head or on a specially designed bicycle rack.

It is the truly unique, laid back surf culture here that makes this region what it is.  You will always see people, of all ages, running towards the beach with their boards so as not to miss a single wave! ,   Yes, there are surfers here who are constantly chasing the wave breaks no matter the weather, from the very first light to often well after the sun has set.

Kirra is, for the time being , is a part of the Gold Coast that has been thankfully forgotten about.  No parking meters, very little commerce and arguably some of the most spectacular relaxed beaches in the World.  It is here that I have had the fortune to undertake several house sitting assignments.

The latest is at Elysees,  a boutique complex of only 24 “state-of-the-art”  Multi-Million Dollar residences right on the seafront with  180 degree views of Kirra Beach and a box seat balcony view of the mesmerising dance of the Southern Wright Wales as they majestically frolick in the waves with their ritual migration each year.

DAISY – The cutest Toy Poodle ever !!

As well a caretaking one of these spectacular apartments, for the next few weeks, I have the pleasure of looking after “Daisy”, a 12 year old miniature poodle who is cuter than cute!  That is until she decides, in the midst of a walk, that enough is enough. Who would have thought that such a cute princess of tiny dog could power up brakes that seem as powerful as  a MAC truck !!!!

Those little paws must have super glue in them.   I assure you, she presents a whole new meaning to the word stubborn.

Still, that is what a sense of humor is for and besides it does give me a mighty fine excuse to  stop by one of the many fabulous Kirra coffee spots to sit and negotiate with Daisy  as to what it would take to allow her little legs to function in the manner in which they were designed for the trip home…….
